Happy birthday to Charles Bukowski! This guy is one of the best and one of my earliest inspirations as an aspiring artist. A true King of Kings!

Inspiration Tuesday #3

My apologies on missing the past couple of Inspiration Tuesdays posts. I was out of commission after some maniacal dentist came my way a stole two of my wisdom teeth right out of my mouth. I sat there with blood soaked gauze stuffed in my mouth as he walked away with a wink and a smile. Needless to say I was left writhing in agony and not feeling very much inspired about anything (Except my dear bottle of Vicodin).

Speaking of Vicodin here is this week's much overdue third installment of the Inspiration Tuesdays...

The only thing I did for days was lay on my couch and watch endless episodes of House MD via my DVD box-sets. I am a huge fan of this show and I wish that someday I will be the Dr. House of the art scene.

Seriously though, how can anyone not be inspired by this video? This is the coolest opening theme to any show ever! I can't get enough of it.

Cheap Art For Sale!

So there's a new bar/grill in town called the BeerHive. I've been there a couple of times and I can say the beer selection is top notch! I haven't had a chance to get any food, but people always seem to be scarfing it down every time that I've been there so it must be good. Besides all that, the have monthly showings of local artists and I'm stoked to be apart of this next batch.

I'm sharing the space with another artist from around here, Rebecca Rose. I saw some of her stuff when I was dropping my work off today and from what I saw it looked pretty rad. I didn't have a chance to get any new work done for it so I am using this as an opportunity to clear out my studio and try to get rid of some older paintings that I had sitting around. There are 10 total pieces of mine there and the show opens tomorrow night and stays up until sometime in August. All my work's prices are marked down so if you want to get some righteous art on the cheap head to the BeerHive!

I've been listening to a ton of Pink Floyd these days and this is one of my favorite numbers of theirs. The best part of the song is at 6:27 of this video. It's got a killer breakdown with some fantastic guitar work over top. Definitely gets me in the mood to groove on the brush!

Inspiration Tuesday #1

So I decided I'm going to start publishing random things that inspire me. Instead of me making sporadic and haphazard posts I've decided to serialize these posts and aptly title them,Inspiration Tuesdays. This way it will force me not to be such a ghost on this blog machine all of the time.

Here is today's first installment:

First up, Bacchus! God of our beloved Grape. I don't know the artist's name that did this (if you do be sure to let me know). Look at him peeing. Drinking and peeing at the same time. I love it!

These guys are scary as hell if you ask me. They are Bamileke dancers in Africa. Those masks are so ominous and creepy, I can't get enough of them.

And lastly, if anyone knows what this is from and the first person to make a comment about it will win a special prize from me. Seriously, this is great!

My Brand New Dano!

When I first heard the absolutely phenomenal sound of the Danelectro 1959 guitar I knew I had to have one. Popularized by Jimmy Page, this guitar has a sound like I've never heard before.

I must admit, before purchasing it I was a little wary of its "lipstick" coil pickups as I haven't ever played with them before, but from the second I plugged the beast in I knew I had made the right choice! These pickups have such a warm and bright tone, but can also get down to the brass tacks when you need 'em to for those epic solos!

I've had this guitar for about two weeks now and I can't tell you how stoked out I am on this amazing instrument! I can't put the thing down. Only reason I am making this blog post is 'cause my fingers are bleeding and can take no more of that wild woman.

I have a couple of pieces that I'm entering into a show at Pittsburgh's Wildcard in October. The show opens October 15 and has a lot of great artists in it. I can't wait for this one. If you're in the area I hope you can make it out!

New Show and Print Release!

If you're in Pittsburgh, PA at all between September 3rd and October 15th be sure to stop into Bloomfield's Crazy Mocha to check out my new show, The Ghost Machine, Part 1 - Dark Days To Come. The new pieces in this show are intended to be a prelude to a larger body of work coming out late fall 2010 entitled, The Ghost Machine, Part 2: The Day the Devil Came to Town. The pieces in this show explore the days and occurrences right before Part 2 takes place as well as illustrating frightening premonitions that have not yet been made known.

In addition to my current show I have released A Brief Stillness at the Edge of the World as a new print! This will be a limited run 50 and you can find it in my Etsy shop!

Clean Slate!

I've begun work on two new pieces that I will have in Fast>>Fwd Gallery's final show on June 4th, 2010. After that they close the doors forever. I wish Joe and Craig continued success in whatever paths they choose to pursue and I'd also like to thank them for showing my work in so many of their shows. Good luck!

I'm Back!

It's been awhile but I'm back to give some more updates. First of all, thanks to everyone that made it out and participated in the 12x12 show. It was a blast and I got to meet a lot of great people!

I have a few things lined up for 2010. First, in April at FastFwd Gallery be sure to check out "Plenty of Sleep When We're Dead." A 4 person group show featuring new works by me, Ron Copeland, Josh Iddings, and Mike Egan. I've got high hopes for this one, don't miss it.

I'll also have some pieces in Modern Formations' Spring Salon in April. Go out and cast your vote! Both of these shows will be opening on the same night during the Penn Ave. Gallery Crawl so you'll be able to see both in the same night!

I've got something else in the works for late summer/Fall of 2010. I'll keep you posted on details as they arise.

Finally, I've just released two brand new prints from the 12x12 show. Both are signed, limited editions of 50 and can be found in my Etsy shop. So be a saint and grab one up today!

Spillway Skate Day

It feels good to finally have some free time. I spent my day today with my good friend, Cory, skating at the newly found North Park Spillway. Besides smelling like nature's toilet and the fear of a dysentery infection, it was a pretty rad time.

If you didn't get a chance to make it or want to come back for more, the show closes this Friday, the 27th. Same deal: Zombo Gallery in Lawerenceville, 6pm - 11pm, free booze, maybe free food, and maybe a musical act (we'll see what we can round up on such short notice). It'd be great to have you there!

After this week is done and the show closes, I'll be updating my website, Flickr, and Etsy shop with pictures and new prints for sale! So definitely keep checking back.

Oh crap! It's exactly one week until I'm supposed to have everything done for the show next Friday and I'm not even close! I should have already been done weeks ago. I'm starting to panic. I still have to finish several pieces and create an entirely new one! Not to mention all the other crap that goes into preparing for the show. On top of it all, I'm sick as hell, which doesn't help any. Alright, hope to see allayas on Friday the 13th. You'll get to see if I managed to pull it off or not...

I have always had people pronounce my name terribly wrong, but recently have been getting a lot of questions about it. So just to clarify, I'm here to post a quick how-to on pronouncing this crazy Germanic name of mine.

Its Breitkreutz,

Sounds like, Bright-K-rights or Bright-Cry-eye-ts. Two syllables.

Not Bright-Croots or Bright-Cruts or any garbage like that and especially not Bright Lights, like I haven't heard that one a thousand times before.

Okay, now that I've told you, don't wear it out!
